Here is the newest community art project -
Very excited to bring people together to paint, draw, talk and eat snacks.
Join the Center for the Arts - PLEIN-APRIL Project!
Let’s have some fun playing outside in the New English spring. Plein air painting is a great way to get outside and enjoy nature. The Plein-April Project asks that we get out into nature and practice some landscape sketching during the month of April. You decide how to challenge yourself. Draw or paint with whatever materials you like, as often as you want, wherever you like. If you would enjoy sharing the results with the CFA on our social media, post on our instagram or in the comments of our Facebook page!
The CFA will host a kick off party on March 27th beginning at 5pm. An opportunity to chat with other people interested in plein air painting about tools, materials and great locations. And a Plan some more plein air get together on March 27th at 5pm. An opportunity to talk about your experience with plein air painting, share what you learned and plan future plein air adventures.
I don't know exactly how its all going to come together and that is half the fun. Community driven community art!
I am prompted to include a couple of the community art projects I designed and hosted for my community. These were both a few years ago, right before I got pretty sick and needed to take some time to get better. I have been yearning to do some communty art again for a while now. Getting it together is a lot of work, but I have alined myself with an art center and some really great volunteers. Hopefully I will be doing some fun community projects soon.
For Fish Sticks - I asked the community to donate dimentional lumber scraps. Volunteers cut them into fish shapes and mounted on bamboo stakes. About 80 people painted fish which we organized into a "school" out in front of our local library.
More community art - I wish I had someone take photos. Birds of a Feather was a community art project where about 300 people painted wooden birds. We strung them on wire in the trees along Main street. The best part was having our participants together painting side by side on a windy, but beautiful June evening. The birds remained in the trees for the community to enjoy until September.
I broke my leg and shattered my left (non-drawing) wrist in December of 2023. Today is August 19th 2024 and I am not fully recovered yet. I am recovered enough to spend some time considering the past 8 months. I spent the first few months unable to walk. I hopped from spot to spot. I lived in a recliner and drew in spirol sketch pads. Every day. I think my artwork got better through practice and focus. I graduated to 11" x 15" pieces of Reeves BFK and started collaging again a couple months ago and I really like the pieces. 4 of them were acepted to shows and 2 of them have gotten me a more exclusive place in a group show at the Arts Center Gallery in Newport NH in 2025. I'm making some landscape studies in collage.
